The Dubai Appeals Court has reduced from five years to one year the prison term awarded to a policeman who was convicted of having sex with a woman in the stairwell of her building as a bribe against not arresting her for overstaying her visa.
The court also reduced the sentence of the Uzbek woman DD, 26, who offered him sex in return for not arresting her, from three years to one year in jail followed by deportation.
According to the records, Tunisian watchman MJ, 26, was surprised when a woman entered the building behind Hamarain Centre in Muraqqabat followed by a policeman in uniform as early as 5.45am.
“I asked the policeman if there is any problem and he told me there is no problem. Then I asked him whether I should accompany him. The policeman asked me to sit at my place,” MJ testified.
However, the curious watchman watched the CCTV which is connected to 16 cameras. “I saw the policeman and the woman reached the fourth floor although the woman lived on the second floor and then they entered the stairwell through the emergency door. I climbed the stairs to the third floor and I could hear and see the policeman and the woman were engaged in sex.
“I went down to the reception are and saw the policeman coming out of the lift. When he saw me, the policeman asked me about residents of two houses on the fourth floor. I told him the residents are from the Philippines. The he entered the police patrol vehicle and drove away,” testified the watchman.
The watchman noted down the number of the police patrol vehicle and then went up through the stairwell. He could see sperm stains on the floor. He notified his senior who asked him to inform the police. Police lifted the sperm residues from the floor which proved to be of that of policeman, SH, 21.The woman’s DNA was found on the policeman’s body though the sperms found on her body were not that of the policeman.
The two confessed to having consensual sex that she offered to the policeman as bribe for not arresting her for violating the UAE’s residency rules.
